Susan Cupit had some incredible luck during her weekend trip to Las Vegas. The 57-year-old won a $1,500 prize on Friday while playing Bally Technologies Hot Shot Progressive slots. But this looked like pocket change compared to the $2,690,429 jackpot that she won two days later at the Palazzo.
“It made that click sound and stopped on the jackpot. I thought, ‘I must have won something big,'” Cupit told an ABC News affiliate. “I knew it was a progressive but I never looked up. All of a sudden I had 100 people crowding around me saying I’d won $2.6 million.”
Following her windfall, Cupit said that she and her husband, Mark, are looking forward to a very comfortable retirement. The homemaker from Palm Desert, California added that she’d like to remodel their house and buy a motorhome to do some traveling.
“We just celebrated our 39th anniversary,” she gushed. “I’m very happy that I could do this for him.” Originally from the Seattle area, the Cupit’s used to do their gambling in Reno. However, after a move to Palm Desert, they’ve been visiting Las Vegas several times each year.
The change in casino scenes definitely seems to have paid off. After all, Susan Cupit hit the type of progressive jackpot that some players can only dream about. In fact, the win feels like a dream to Cupit too. “You always say, ‘I’m going to hit the big one, but you never really think it’s going to happen,'” she explained. “I’m really taken aback by the amount of people, complete strangers, that are just so happy for me. Truly, I’ve never had more hugs and handshakes and smiles. It’s been just an absolutely wonderful experience.”
Now maybe Cupit will want to take a shot at another Vegas jackpot that hasn’t been won in 20 years. The Lion’s Share progressive machine at MGM Resorts is currently worth over $2.3 million. Despite being the oldest game on MGM’s floor, Lion’s Share is the most-played machine too.
Many players like that this 3-reel slot machine offers a huge prize, yet it doesn’t require people to make enormous bets like other progressive slots. Of course, there’s also the fame and history aspect to consider since many players throughout the Vegas area want to be the one to finally crack the Lion’s Share’s massive jackpot.
